Interesting stats on EVs and energy use in the US, developments in wind and tidal power, a plastic recycling microfactory, and an "unprecedented collapse" in EU fossil fuel generation.
US companies have successfully test flown hydrogen-powered planes that could seat as many as 40 passengers – and they say they're just getting started.
Two California-based companies have successfully test flown hydrogen-powered planes that could seat as many as 40 passengers. And according to this article on The Cool Down, it sounds like they're just getting started.
Aerospace and heavy machinery seem like two major industries where hydrogen could potentially become a viable fuel alternative as we continue to transition toward a carbon-free future. The questions to keep in mind when it comes to hydrogen are, "how much does it cost to produce?" (a lot, it seems right now) and "where is it coming from?" – because if it's been obtained as a by-product of fossil fuel production and/or leads to increased emissions, it's not exactly green, you know?
That said, it does seem like a lot of energy companies are working on developing cost-effective, carbon-free ways to create hydrogen. It will be interesting to see how their efforts pan out.
