Interesting stats on EVs and energy use in the US, developments in wind and tidal power, a plastic recycling microfactory, and an "unprecedented collapse" in EU fossil fuel generation.
Does that bring us one step closer to green steel?
Ovako, Europe's largest steel producer and a major steel recycler, has just launched Europe's largest green hydrogen plant. It's the world's first plant to produce fossil-free hydrogen for use in heating steel prior to rolling and is expected to slash CO2 emissions from the rolling process down to almost zero.
Excess hydrogen produced by the plant will be used to power the company's fuel-cell trucks. Ovako is the first country in the world to use this technology and says it expects to use green hydrogen to power all of its steel-rolling plants by 2030.
This all sounds great but I wish the articles would have mentioned what's powering the new hydrogen plant. Are they using solar power? Wind? Geothermal?
Inquiring minds want to know!
