Starting October, people will be able to claim between €6 and €25 of the cost of mending their clothes and shoes.
I missed this last month: France has launched an initiative to reduce textile waste by paying people to repair their clothes instead of throwing them out.
Starting October, people will be able to claim between €6 and €25 of the cost of getting their clothes and shoes mended by an alterations specialist or cobbler. The money will come from a €154 million government fund and is meant to support businesses in offering more apparel repair services.
This story has inspired me to see if I can find a local alterations specialist who can alter a bunch of dresses and tops that are still really great quality but no longer fit since I lost a bunch of weight a couple of years ago. I really like these clothes and would much rather hold onto them than have to buy a bunch of new stuff.
