Interesting stats on EVs and energy use in the US, developments in wind and tidal power, a plastic recycling microfactory, and an "unprecedented collapse" in EU fossil fuel generation.
Spoiler: turns out the secret ingredient is starch.
Researchers in Michigan are saying they've discovered a way to make a bio-based sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastics more biodegradable.
Apparently they have created a new polymer blend that combines polylactic acid (PLA) with starch, which makes it easier to break down into its natural components of water, carbon dioxide, and lactic acid in both industrial and home compostors.
Good news if true... the world needs more biodegradable alternatives to plastic. We also need to realize that we can easily make do with a LOT less "stuff” – and our lives will be richer and happier if we prioritize experiences over things! ✌️
