Interesting stats on EVs and energy use in the US, developments in wind and tidal power, a plastic recycling microfactory, and an "unprecedented collapse" in EU fossil fuel generation.
According to this Guardian article, a growing number of countries are considering making ecocide a crime. Mexico is the latest country where politicians have introduced a bill to criminalize ““any unlawful or wanton act committed with the knowledge that there is a substantial likelihood of severe and either widespread or long-term damage to the environment.”
Similar laws have already been enacted in countries such as France, Vietnam, Ukraine, and Russia, while draft laws have been submitted in other countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, and Brazil. Here's hoping they pass and actually have teeth.
Gotta love it! Though I think in terms of the wording in Mexico's proposed law, perpetrators should have to be held accountable for their crimes whether they have explicit "knowledge" of the consequences of their actions or not.
