LINKS OF THE WEEK: Feb 12, 2024
Interesting stats on EVs and energy use in the US, developments in wind and tidal power, a plastic recycling microfactory, and an "unprecedented collapse" in EU fossil fuel generation.
Not as exciting as it sounds – BUT it is another example of a valuable source of biomaterials that we've been throwing away or burning instead of making better use of it.
The new system could harness 40% of incoming sunlight, making it much more efficient than current solar thermochemical hydrogen systems that capture only 7%.
Does that bring us one step closer to green steel?
File this one under "good news if true!"
US companies have successfully test flown hydrogen-powered planes that could seat as many as 40 passengers – and they say they're just getting started.
The company has agreed to pre-purchase the hydrogen, which will be produced by facilities designed to remove CO2 from seawater so the ocean can become a more efficient carbon sink.
Seems a lot better than hydrogen that comes from fossil fuels...
Who knew? (And who on Earth would choose hydrogen over electricity to power a bike??)
